Our Privacy Promise
Kabynyt is owned, operated, and maintained by Gregory Yuzik (“us”, or “we”).
Your collection isn't just a feature of Kabynyt — it's the foundation. Kabynyt does not collect, store, transmit, or have access to your collection.
Every item you add — photos, notes, prices, metadata — lives in SwiftData on your iPhone. If you have iCloud enabled, it syncs through your private CloudKit container to your other Apple devices. Apple cannot read this data; Kabynyt cannot read this data; nobody but you can read this data.
What Kabynyt Collects
We want to be completely transparent: the app itself collects nothing about you. A few features hand specific data to third-party services on your behalf — those are listed below the table.
| Data Type | Collected by Kabynyt? | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Your collection | ❌ No | Stored only on your device and your personal iCloud account. |
| Photos | ❌ No | Photos you attach to items stay in your private CloudKit container. Photos you submit for identification are sent to Google Gemini to process that request (see Data Providers). |
| Names or emails | ❌ No | Kabynyt does not collect any personally identifiable information. |
| Usage analytics | ❌ No | Kabynyt does not track how you use the app. |
| Advertising data | ❌ No | There are no ads in Kabynyt and no advertising SDKs. |
| Location | ❌ No | Used only to fetch local weather (about once a day, at kilometer accuracy) from Apple's WeatherKit for daily suggestions and the aurora backdrop. Never stored, and never sent to anyone but Apple. |
Data Providers
Some Kabynyt features query external services to identify items, look up barcodes, or fill in covers and metadata. Each request carries only what's needed for that task — at most the photo, barcode, search text, or the details of the single item you're working on — never your whole collection, your name, your email, or anything that identifies you or your device. The table below lists every provider Kabynyt may contact and what each one receives. Connecting a Discogs account — covered below the table — is the one optional exception.
| Provider | Used for | What's sent |
|---|---|---|
| Google Gemini | Photo identification, barcode deep-lookup, AI-assisted name search, cover-art search, AI theming | The photo or barcode you submit, your search text, and — for AI features used on an existing item — that item's details (title, creator, year, notes) |
| Apple iTunes Search | Movies, TV, music, podcasts | Your title query or an Apple catalog ID |
| Open Library | Books | Your title query, ISBN, or work identifier |
| MusicBrainz | Music releases and metadata | Your artist/title query or a MusicBrainz release ID |
| Cover Art Archive | Music cover images | A MusicBrainz release ID |
| Discogs | Vinyl & music lookups; optional two-way collection & wishlist sync | Your search text or a release ID — and, if you connect a Discogs account, the records and wishlist you choose to sync (title, rating, grade, notes) |
| Wikipedia | General catalog entries | Your title query or a Wikipedia page slug |
| RAWG | Video games | Your title query |
| UPCitemdb | Barcode lookups | The scanned barcode digits |
Each provider's privacy policy governs how it handles the request after it leaves your device — Google, for example, may retain Gemini requests for a limited period to monitor for abuse. Kabynyt does not retain photos, queries, or any other lookup data, and we do not see this traffic — requests go from your device directly to the provider.
Connecting a Discogs account is optional. If you connect one, Kabynyt signs you in to Discogs and keeps the records and wishlist you choose in two-way sync: the items you sync — and later edits or deletions to them — are sent to your Discogs account, and your Discogs collection is pulled back into the app. This is the only case where Kabynyt sends more than a single lookup, it happens only after you connect, and you can disconnect at any time in Settings → External Accounts.
Your Data Stays Yours
All of your content is stored exclusively on your device and in your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. Your iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy and protected by Apple's encryption.
Device Permissions
Kabynyt may request the following device permissions. No data from these permissions is ever sent to Kabynyt:
- Camera — Used to photograph collectibles and scan barcodes.
- Photo Library — Used to pick existing photos for items.
- Files — Used to pick CSV files for import and to write JSON snapshots for backup.
- Location (While Using) — Used to fetch local weather for daily suggestions and the aurora backdrop. Sent only to Apple's WeatherKit, never stored.
Apple Platform Services
- CloudKit — Syncs your collection through your personal iCloud account.
- StoreKit — Handles the Kabynyt AI subscription. Kabynyt never receives your payment details.
For more information, see Apple's Privacy Policy.
Subscriptions
Kabynyt AI is an optional auto-renewable subscription processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Kabynyt does not have access to your payment information.
Children's Privacy
Kabynyt does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Your Rights (International)
Regardless of where you live, Kabynyt's privacy-first architecture means your rights are inherently protected:
- Right of Access — All your data is on your device and in your personal iCloud account.
- Right to Rectification — You can edit or update any item directly within the app.
- Right to Erasure — Delete items within the app or delete the app itself.
- Right to Data Portability — Settings → Backup & Restore exports a JSON snapshot of your entire collection.
- Right to Object — Kabynyt itself performs no background processing of your data; AI and catalog lookups run only when you start them.
For EEA users, these rights are guaranteed under the GDPR. For Brazilian users, under the LGPD.
